Aquilegia Ministar

As per usual I have been glued to the television coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, feeling the annual bout of regret that I didn’t buy a ticket.  This year the floral marquee has looked particularly stunning and I’m thrilled to see that one of my favourite nurseries Bloms Bulbs has been awarded a Gold Medal, its 63rd since 1948.  Quite an achievement.

This beauty came from Bloms a couple of years ago, known as  Ministar it’s a dwarf variety of Aquilegia, it grows to around 25cm with mounds of green foliage and gentian blue & cream flowers.  Aquilegias are happiest in partial shade and this one really seems to appreciate the cool Spring weather we are currently having.

That sounds like just the kind of plant I could use here in the Ardennes. It would really brighten up my mood. (-1C tonight and it is May 23rd GRRRR).
