Apple Arthur Turner

There is always something that I’m trying to find a space for on the plot and this week it’s this beauty.  Apple Arthur Turner.  Supermarkets are getting much better at stocking more unusual types of eating apple but when it comes to culinary varieties it’s Bramley or err… Bramley, which means for most of us who do not have ready access to a great farm shop or market if you want to try something different you really do have to ‘grow your own’.

We used these in an Eve’s Pudding with the addition of a few blackberries and the flavour was sublime.

And it appears that I am not the only person who is rather fond of them, Monty Don            (@TheMontyDon) tweeted earlier this week.

‘Baked ‘Arthur Turner’ apples till they exploded in white froth. A heavy hand with the cream and a delicious, light, almost liquid, pudding.’

So there you go.

Lots of information about them from Ashridge Nurseries and they are also available from Ken Muir.
